Once we have discovered an authentic sense of Self, for perhaps the first time, Spirit Breath re-engages with us on our road to physical, psychic and spiritual wholeness. Knowing that our experience of Divine Love in the darkness of our broken humanity needs no defending nor justification we set about picking ourselves up and walking on towards we know not where. One thing we do know though is that we are different; something has changed within; the energy of our religious ego with all its past certainties and attack possibilities has dissipated. The buzz of religious rivalry and debate is nowhere to be seen, having been exorcised by the visit of the Other and its healing touch.

Wounded Healers
All is consumed in a knowing that we have nothing to fear before slowly walking forward into the manifest mysteries of Divine Love. Our previous sense of betrayal and disillusionment has been replaced by a confidence that indeed All is well, that we are somehow upheld by a Power and Presence that chooses to accompany us on the remainder of our Journey Home.
An important lesson lies ahead for us on this second pilgrimage. Now that we no longer play the religious games of organized religion with its rituals and not so subtle expectations, our spirit spark looks for an outlet, a means of sharing the Divine Life that stirs within. Without the traditional role plays of faith communities, we are suddenly overtaken by the synchronicity of events designed by our new Teacher. Simply put we begin to meet others along the Way who have had similar experiences to ourselves. This alone proves to be a further confirmation of the authenticity of our new take on spirituality and walking with the Divine. Yet something more shocking lies behind such meetings. We discover that the little drop of Spirit Breath that dwells within flows out as a raging torrent to water the parched ground of our new friends psyche. The realization that Divine Love flows through us to feed and nurture the psyche-soul of another is a total shock to our fledgling Self identity. Yet in this Spirit exchange we emerge more fully into the Mystery that is the Love of God for man. In our frailty and weakness, One chooses to touch the wounded essence of another, igniting their spirit in a Divine Dance of Joy.
In our previous incarnations as zealous believers ‘ministry’ was a medal worn by the religious ego. A badge of honor proving our God promotion by a Commander-in-Chief who runs His people like a disciplined and purposeful army. Many of us scrambled around the religious scene seeking our ministries within the desire matrix of metaphysical purpose. Blocked and frustrated our desire to be used by God ultimately became a curse in the rivalry structures of Model based religion.
Now, only too aware of our own psychic limp, we find Divine Presence flowing through us without the accompaniment of ego and its search for identity. Our identity issue has well and truly been resolved in the darkness of our psychic brokenness. Now nothing matters except the connection and resonance with Love, the One who turned up when all others fell away. The dreams and aspirations of past years are now fulfilled as we touch the wounded soul and become a channel for Divine authentication.
Having been visited by Divine Love we inadvertently become the carriers of that Love; a Love that knows exactly who we’re to touch on the Way. Everything has changed – we can fix no-one. Religious words and sales pitches no longer do it. We have become walking transmitters of the Divine Presence; a Presence that is happy to manifest itself through our recovering humanity. A word, a look, a touch, a smile, all energized and planned by the Divine Lover in its all-consuming passion for reconnection with its reflected image.
As we continue our process of recovery from the addiction of enthusiastic religion we have been taught a most valuable and life changing lesson. No longer do we need to make things happen; Divine Love informs us that He/She can arrange all that it Wills. No longer are we on a ‘Blues Brother’ style, ‘Mission for God’. Instead we are being carried along by the Flow of Spirit Breath. Healing us as we go, the Divine Alchemist transforms us, the recovering patient into a healing channel for others on the Way. Truly a miracle fit for the Source of All, One determined to have wholeness at the End of Days.

Dylan this is indeed a good post and you will know that I have written much about the Wounded Healer – Jesus was of course the first real life Wounded Healer, following in the mythological tradition of Chiron the Centaur. I take issue a little with your side bar profile info – I quote “Mysticism is rarely spoken of in the commercially driven marketplace of modern Christianity. The experience of Spirit or Holy Breath has largely been replaced by a quasi religion more akin to the razzle-dazzle entertainment industry than authentic spirituality.” I agree very much, to the extent that churches really are “commercially driven market places” offering “razzle dazzle entertainment” and so on, but very many churches are far removed from this description. Those churches that recognize the mysticism of Jesus Christ and offer a real spiritual experience within the context of His own teachings – teachings which I grant are widely misunderstood – will survive, and other churches need to change to survive.
But good post! All best wishes.
Sorry I’m late in commenting Eleanor. Thank you for dropping by and sharing your wisdom. I do believe that the churches who aren’t driven by the market model in their evangelistic zeal to get bums on seats have a rich mystical tradition to offer folk. Much of it is unfortunately hidden behind much ritual. I reckon we need folk like ourselves to share our take on the Mystical Way, perhaps using a new language that others, especially those with no religious background can understand. The Mind Body Spirit folk are way ahead of us yeshua followers on that one, although there the new language and culture is also slipping into the marketplace paradigm bigtime!
Blessings as always Eleanor

Wow Dylan, this is so good… so very good, my friend.
This part especially hits home… helps break that feeling of aloneness Choice sometimes brings~

That is absolutely beautiful…like a breath of fresh air, it is.
Thank you.
Paul, thanks for your kind and most encouraging words Paul. There is so much more to this walk with Divine Spirit than we’ve been led to believe. May we have fun in exploring the boundlessness and otherness of Divine Love in all its wildness.
Blessings

Thank you, Dylan. Yours is one of the very few sites I subscribe to these days…
in fact, this is the first public comment I have made in the last 7 or 8 months. There is a grief beyond human words over the gap between the palatable ‘acceptable norm’ and what really Is in all its boundlessness and otherness.
So much is available to all… everything pertaining to the reconciliation and redemption of all parts in us all… everyone of us, each innerpart bathed and reconciled with other parts of us previously at war in their experiencially unknown and unloved state of being. Full access into wholeness… within ourselves and also with others… yet the need to hide from that beautiful Love and the fear of what it leads to has set the ‘Christian standard’ quite deeply. Dylan… is the ‘cost’ really that great?
One did it beautifully and perfectly while He was here. He spoke of it nonstop, yet so very few heard. I think that maybe the grief He was so intimately acquainted with was not necessarily over the impending savagery and death He was about to face, or even the rejection of Who it is He was, but possibly more over the unbearable sadness of watching so many sit in the more palatable teachings of the comfortable norm while while the fullness of Light and Life that gives access into becoming whole was so willingly and fully available to them.
Thank you for helping bring that Light to our tables here. It helps break the sadness and aloneness… the misunderstandings and misinterpretations that come from choosing to see beyond the norm. I don’t feel there is anyone necessarily to blame for the gap… other than maybe that which is of the very nature of the beast, I just feel so alone most every time I walk through a church door.
It hurts knowing that, my friend… and I do not have the necessary ability or strength to change it. Sometimes that hurts the most.
One of your own countrymen said it so well in song~
“… and I’d join the movement
If there was one I could believe in
Yeah, I’d break bread and wine
If there was a church I could receive in
‘Cause I need it now~
To take the cup
To fill it up
To drink it slow
I can’t let you go
I must be an acrobat
To talk like this
And act like that
And you can dream
So dream out loud…
Don’t let the ‘bastards’ grind you down.”
Paul thank you for dropping by and writing this powerful wee comment. It hit me straight in the spiritual Solar Plexus. You have perceived the situation perfectly. We sleepwalk through the meadows of religious and philosophical thought with our eyes firmly closed. Not many of us expect to come in contact with Other. We’re happy for others to spin their myths and feed us with a diet of dry theory. One drop of the Eternal answers all our questions, but only increases our thirst.
Folk wonder why I walk in solitude. I think you’ve answered it above. The religious game is death to all who partake. After the initial thrill of being part of a belief system and its accompanying group dynamics, the psyche eventually brings it all back up, seeking Living Water from beyond consciousness.
I love your Van quote. The poor man had a few Irish Charismatic Christians working for him who gently tried to edge him into the standard Christian faith box but without success. Thank goodness for that. Prophets work best in the desert.
Blessings to you over there in Montana.

Wow! Don’t I know it? How well you say what I know to be true but haven’t dared speak! When I was in ministry I always, always felt that I fell short of the mark and was a hypocrite (because I wasn’t perfect). It wasn’t until I woke up from the religious illusions that I found my way into the vast wilderness and solitude. Only there could I hear the Voice of the Beloved.
And the vision of being a wounded healer should indeed suffice. Perhaps in our words, creative life breathed through us will find its healing way into the hearts of others. My prayer at least. That’s why I found it important to write a spiritual memoir (still a WIP), in hopes that it may speak to others who have journeyed the same beaten path.
Thanks for your comment Debra. Many of us who used to be ministry junkies have surprisingly discovered that once we jump off or are pushed off the church treadmill Divine Love touches others through our own brokenness. The mystery of the healing process could only have been thought up by God who always intended to flesh Himself/Herself out in the world of men. May Spirit flow through your honesty and openness in the days that lie ahead.
